Gilbert, Arizona is no Los Angeles but the city gets its fair share of celebrity sightings. Unfortunately for the former NFL star quarterback, Donovan McNabb, this came in the form of arrest for a serious criminal charge.
Earlier this month the former Eagle was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol; he was cited and released on June 28. This is McNabb’s second DUI arrest in 18 months, according to ESPN. Last year, it was reported that McNabb was jailed for a day after speeding his Range Rover at 81 MPH in a 65 MPH zone at 3am.
In this incident, McNabb was arrested following a non-injury collision where he allegedly rear-ended a vehicle driven by the wife of a Gila River tribal police officer. McNabb denied having consumed alcohol. A sample of McNabb’s blood sample was sent to the Mesa Police Crime Lab for tests. There is no report on results.
Current and former NFL players are no strangers to DUI charges. Even the 2014 touchdown leader, Marshawn Lynch, was charged with DUI in Seattle, Washington last year. Lynch’s DUI charge resulted in a guilty plea to a reduced charge of reckless driving. According to DUI lawyers in Seattle, Washington, penalties for reckless driving are lower than those for drunk driving.
McNabb may not be so lucky in this incident. We do not know the facts surrounding his charges so we cannot discuss the specifics of his case. However, generally speaking, and we would like to emphasize generally speaking, when you have a prior DUI conviction, things begin to get more difficult as the person is now viewed as a high risk to the community. Given that this is McNabb’s second DUI arrest in 18 months and one that involves a collision with another vehicle, the chances are high that this case will be more complicated for McNabb than his first DUI charge. In addition, it is likely that at the time of this arrest McNabb was still on probation for the previous DUI.
