How Common are Daytime DUI in Arizona?

Are Daytime DUI’s Common in Arizona?

Typically, when you think of people getting arrested for drunk driving, you would think that the person is driving at night. However, in recent years, more and more DUI charges are filed against people in Arizona during the daytime. To give an example, you could be at a Sunday Brunch having a few mimosas or at a baseball game in the afternoon having a few beers. You might be under the assumption that it’s only a few drinks and that you are much more alert during the day. However, the fact of “dui to the slightest degree” still applies.

As time has gone on, law enforcement officers have realized that people do drink during the day and might be likely to be out and about. Many departments are now setting up sobriety checkpoints during the day to check drivers for daytime drunk driving. Getting behind the wheel after a few cocktails has no specific timeframe.

What Exactly is Considered a DUI in Arizona?

A DUI, also known as driving under the influence, is where a person is driving under the influence of alcohol. Even just a couple of drinks can make it to where you should not be driving. Both legally and morally. If you plan on drinking, during any time of the day or night, it is imperative that you have someone else driving. You aren’t only risking your life, but the lives of others. You also risk going to jail as well as paying a hefty fine.

Are Daytime DUI’s More Dangerous?

Due to more people being out on the street, daytime DUI’s are definitely more dangerous. During the day, there are shoppers out and people going to and from work. This leads to the likelihood of a catastrophic wreck. This is why so many law enforcement officers are out during the day to make sure that this does not happen.

Rush Hour vs. Night Time for DUI’s

Rush hour, both morning and evening can be the most devastating time for a DUI. People are on their way to and from work. With so many people out on the road, the better chance of a major accident. Many people might be under the assumption that rush hour is not a time to worry about a drunk driver. Many times this has been proven wrong.

Since law enforcement is aware of the problem, they are going to do whatever they can to protect lives. They are there to help protect your life and other drivers out on the road. Law enforcement will set up checkpoints and increase patrols during the daytime due to the increasing likelihood of drunk driving during the daytime.

There are several reasons why daytime periods offer a higher risk of a deadly Arizona DUI accident. Here are some of the reasons:

  • Higher traffic volume.
  • More people in the car. This is due to carpooling, and parents taking and picking up their kids from school.
  • During the day, pedestrians may be out walking around.
  • School buses.

There have been several deadly school bus accidents in both the United States and Canada. Drunk driving in Arizona just makes this more likely. Another issue is that getting victims to the hospital during an auto accident in Arizona may not be easy due to the increase in traffic due to daytime commutes.

The University of North Carolina’s Highway Safety Research Center recently revealed that the number of daytime DUI accidents and violations have increased every single year. To see the research as well as more information on DUI’s. With law enforcement knowing that DUI’s are increasing, they will do all that they can to ensure the safety of people out on the road.
