For hit seventh DUI Lonnie Michael Haney opted for his riding lawn mower. A local deputy who knew Haney’s driving license was suspended pulled him over on the shoulder of a road in Oak Ridge Tennessee in August of 2010. In an example of the quick wheels of justice only two years later he was charged with a two year sentence and a $3000 fine. Under Tennessee law he will be required to serve 30 percent of his term before being eligible for release.
When he was pulled over the officer cited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an inability to ‘do well’ in the field sobriety tests.
In Arizona if Haney’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) had been above 0.08% he would have been charged with DUI. If his BAC had been above 0.15% he would have been charged with Extreme DUI and if it had been above 0.20% he would have been charged with Super Extreme DUI.
Regardless of what level above 0.08% his BAC had been however since his license was suspended and this was his 7th offense he would have been charged with a Felony Aggravated DUI and faced mandatory minimum of 2 years prison time.
It was Lonnie Michael Haney’s seventh drunken driving conviction that got him sent to prison. It was on a lawn mower.
Anderson County District Attorney Dave Clark told The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/NJfVPw ) the court sent Haney “back to ‘Go,'” a reference to the board game Monopoly.
In a plea bargain Monday, the 48-year-old Haney pleaded guilty in exchange for a two-year sentence and $3,000 in fines.
An Anderson County deputy, who knew Haney’s driving license had been suspended, saw him on a John Deere riding mower on the shoulder of a road in Oak Ridge in August 2010. The deputy said Haney’s speech was slurred, his eyes bloodshot and he didn’t do well in field sobriety tests.
Haney must serve 30 percent of his term before release.
