Throughout the State of Arizona, local law enforcement will be out in full force over the 2013 Labor Day Holiday looking for drunk drivers. Law enforcement from different cities form into DUI task forces with the East Valley DUI Task Force being one of the most famous in the country. These task forces will be looking for any type of traffic violation so they can pull you over to see if you’ve been drinking.
In the State of Arizona, over the Labor Day Holiday in 2012 the task forces netted approximately 40 arrests for Aggravated DUI, 115 Extreme DUIs, 342 for Misdemeanor DUI, which is a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or higher, and 62 drug DUI arrests. As you can see the law enforcement in Arizona means business when dealing with drunk driving. It’s important to protect yourself this weekend so put our phone number (602) 560-4004 in your cell phone now under ‘Lawyer’. Remember, law enforcement will also be out on lakes and waterways so be careful and have a designated driver if you’re driving a boat over the weekend.
Watch David Cantor talk about what to do during a DUI task force:
If the law enforcement officer suspects you of DUI, the most important thing to remember is that you need to tell the officer that you aren’t doing any tests or answering any questions until you talk to your lawyer. At this point they’ll let you call your lawyer and if you call us (602-560-4004), we’ll tell you how to handle the situation.
For a first offense DUI they will likely arrest you and you will have to do a blood or breath test with the officer. At this point you can and should ask to be released to go to a local hospital to get an independent blood test.
The bottom line is that if you’ve been snared in the task force, remember to tell the officer you aren’t going to do any tests or answer any questions until you speak with your lawyer. Then give us a call at (602) 560-4004 and we’ll help you.
