The Fourth of July is a holiday during the summer where folks get together and celebrate the birthday of the United States. Lots of people like to celebrate by going to watch firework displays or by participating in another patriotic endeavor. In Arizona, it is also a time when people head to the lake for some boating or just get together and party. Local law enforcement knows this and is ready with sobriety or DUI checkpoints set-up around the state. July 4, 2014 stands to be a record year for DUI arrests because the Fourth is on a Friday this year and most everyone has a 3 day weekend to continue the revelry. The word is out that the county Sheriffs and State officials will be out on lakes and rivers looking for signs of impaired drivers. How do most boaters get caught for DUI? The Sheriff or other law enforcement will come up to your boat and ask to see that you have life jackets for each passenger on the boat. During this time, they will survey the boat and look for signs of drinking and they will proceed from there asking who is driving the boat, hopefully the driver is sober.
If you are out and drinking, we advise you to just add 20 dollars after ordering your third beer and take a cab home. Do not think you can beat the Sobriety Checkpoints; they are conducted by the best impairment detection officers. They also will enforce a zero-tolerance policy for any driver who is found to be impaired by alcohol or drugs. This also goes out for any driver or passenger who is under 21-years old who is impaired with any level of alcohol or drugs in their system.
The price of a cab is a no-brainer when compared to the fines of a DUI charge or worse, Vehicular Homicide. If you’re going to be on the road or on the lake this July 4th, put our phone number (602-560-4004) in your cell phone now and call us BEFORE speaking to police.
